Surrounded by hydrangea, Shirley Patterson works in her garden at 1002 S. 21st St. in Fort Dodge. Patterson's garden is one of those that will be featured on the annual Fort Dodge Federated Garden Club Garden Tour.

Members of the Fort Dodge Federated Garden Club are inviting the public to spend an evening strolling amid hydrangeas, pink petunias and lots of vegetables.

Those are among the plants and flowers people will see during the club’s 21st annual Garden Tour from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 6. It will be held even if it rains.

Tickets cost $10. There is no cost for children age 14 and younger accompanied by a parent.

Tickets are available at Becker Florist, 1335 First Ave. N. On the evening of the tour, they will be available at 2990 22nd Ave. N.

“It will just be an enjoyable evening of relaxing and walking through gardens,” said Skip Thompson, a member of the club.

She said five gardens, all in Fort Dodge, will be featured on the tour. Different styles of gardens on varying sizes of properties are included.

“This will show the different things you can do,” Thompson said. “There is something for everyone.”

She said the first stop is at the home of former Webster County Supervisor Keith Dencklau, where people on the tour will see a “nice manicured lawn” and an expansive vegetable garden.

Another garden, she said, has lots of planter boxes and garden art. And yet another garden has lots of hydrangeas on a large lot.
