A Webster County sheriff’s deputy separates some people in the emotionally charged aftermath of a shooting Tuesday night near the intersection of Second Avenue North and 10th Street. The shooting left one man dead and another injured, according to Fort Dodge Police Capt. Donald McLaren.

UPDATE: The FDPD has issued first-degree murder arrest warrant for 17-year-old Davonquae Jyshon “D.J.” Pettigrew, of Fort Dodge. The fatal shooting victim was identified as 18-year-old Patrick Walker, and the victim at the hospital was identified as 20-year-old Silas Hall.

One man was killed and another was injured in a shooting in downtown Fort Dodge Tuesday evening, according to police.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Second Avenue North and 10th Street, according to police Capt. Donald McLaren. He said one man was deceased and the other was being treated for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Law enforcement and emergency medical personnel were first called to the 100 block of North 10th Street at 7:11 p.m. for a report of a man with a gunshot wound. A man was found lying on the sidewalk there and was declared dead at the scene.

As they were responding to that location, a report was received about a man with a gunshot wound at the hospital.

McLaren said the man found on the sidewalk and the one found at the hospital were part of the same incident.

The small crowd that gathered at the North 10th Street scene included some highly agitated people. A Webster County sheriff’s deputy had to separate some people who were yelling at each other. Another man who ducked under the yellow police line tape and began running toward the crime scene was taken to the ground by multiple officers.

The intersection of Second Avenue North and 10th Street, plus portions of 10th Street and Second Avenue North were cordoned off while investigators worked.

The Fort Dodge police and fire departments, Webster County sheriff’s deputies, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement officers responded.
