Hundreds of people showed up to Iowa Central Community College’s East Campus this past weekend in search of ideas and help with home and garden improvements.
The annual Home, Garden, and Lifestyle Show was full of vendors, giveaways, and information to help people gear up for projects around their homes.
The event, sponsored by The Messenger, The Daily Freeman-Journal, and Sears Hometown Store, also had delicious food from Clayton’s Ribs and Chicken and speakers who presented information for show goers to get out and get ready to tackle any project they like. Admission to the show was also free this year thanks to Hy-Vee.
Clayton’s Ribs and Chicken wasn’t the only one feeding the hungry crowds. Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota also held a pancake breakfast Saturday.
“I would like to thank the businesses who participated in this weekend’s show. Knowing inventory is limited and staffing hard to find, we appreciate their partnership,” said The Messenger and The Daily Freeman-Journal Publisher Terry Christensen.

A few lucky show attendees who registered at the show will receive prizes, including five $100 Sears gift cards and one $500 Menards gift card. One winner will take home a brand new Husqvarna riding lawn mower that retails for $2,400 from Sears Hometown Store. In addition, kids could register for a kid’s barn courtesy of Kauffman’s Wood Kreations.
Throughout the weekend, there were several speakers presenting on different topics sponsored by P&R Entry Doors Inc., of Duncombe.
Kelsey Felch with Faiferlick Martial Arts and Next Edge Performance spoke about martial arts and pain relief. A representative from The Messenger held a question-and-answer forum and talked about accessing the newspaper from all devices.
On Sunday, Assistant City Manager Ryan Maehl from the City of Fort Dodge spoke about Fort Dodge Fiber broadband.
“Our region is fortunate to have such an event and it is made possible by the vendors, so we encourage you to support these businesses. We would also like to thank Iowa Central for allowing this show to take place at their East Campus,” said Christensen. “Also, big thank you to those who attended the show.”
