Dunham’s Sporting Goods has once again announced plans to close its Fort Dodge store in January 2022. It has been open for more than 25 years.

Dunham’s Sporting Goods, located in the former Crossroads Mall, plans to close its doors for the final time in January 2022.

In an email to customers, Dunham’s announced that its last day of business will be Jan. 16.

The company cited the mall demolition and new ownership of the property as reasons for the closure.

Crossroads Plaza Development LLC, of Ankeny, is the owner of the mall property. It has re-envisioned the area to include a collection of stores and recreational opportunities. Rather than having a mall concept, the owners plan to have most stores built with outside entrances to each.

“There was no option to renew our lease,” the email stated.

The store, which specializes in athletic equipment, clothing, guns and other sports-related items, is offering 25 percent off all display and clearance items. It is offering 10 percent off all items.

“We value all of our customers and encourage you to shop Dunham’s Sports for all the big brand names at the lowest prices,” the email said.

Dunham’s, which has been open in Fort Dodge for more than 25 years, nearly closed its doors in January 2021. The company was later able to come to an agreement with mall ownership to continue operations for one year.

Dunham’s is the largest sporting goods chain in the Midwest. The first Dunham’s opened in 1937 in West Bloomfield, Michigan. It was a small shop called Dunham’s Bait & Tackle. Today, there are over 200 stores in 22 states, from Nebraska to Maryland.

Dunham’s corporate office did not return phone calls made on Wednesday.
