FD council buys houses for future redevelopment effort

This vacant two-story house at 323 N. Eighth St. was purchased by the Fort Dodge City Council on Monday for $55,000 from FD Investments LLC. It will be demolished.

A one-block section of North Eighth Street has been identified for future redevelopment, and the Fort Dodge City Council on Monday started buying property to make that possible.

The council purchased:

• A vacant two-story house at 323 N. Eighth St. from FD Investments LLC for $55,000.

• A house at 322 N. Eighth St. from Kelly and Anne Payne, of Fort Dodge, for $42,400.

• A two-story duplex at 309 N. Eighth St. from Reva Foy, of Fort Dodge, for $25,000.

• A house at 307 N. Eighth St. from Allied Investment Properties LLC, of Fort Dodge, for $48,000.

• A two-story building containing three apartments at 303 N. Eighth St. from Kelly and Anne Payne for $49,700.

The buildings at 323, 322, 307 and 303 North Eighth Street will be demolished by the current owners before the sales are closed. The house at 309 N. Eighth St. will be demolished by the city.

In other business, the council named Matt Newton as the lead fire department mechanic and Aaron Kampman as assistant fire department mechanic.

Newton has been a firefighter since 2013. Before joining the Fire Department, he worked for nine years as a mechanic. Kampman has been a firefighter since 2017. He worked as a certified diesel technician for five years before joining the Fire Department. Both will continue with their regular firefighter duties in addition to serving as mechanics.
