VA asks for raise in mostly unchanged county budget

The Webster County Board of Supervisors began hearing proposals this week from every county department for the fiscal year 2020 budget.

Departments began presenting their budget proposals Monday, and they continued Tuesday.

Each department goes through its budget line by line and is reviewed by the county supervisors, who will determine the department’s budget at a later date.

Dan Lewandowski, director of Webster County Veterans Affairs, presented his budget to the board Tuesday afternoon.

Much of Lewandowski’s proposed $115,264 budget remains unchanged, with one exception; he is asking for an 82 cent raise, plus any additional money that would add up to a 4 percent raise.

“The commission has decided to honor the memo dated the 14th of September, 2015, of an 82 cent increase, and then to add to that a total increase equal to 4 percent for the total year,” Lewandowski said.

He said the raise is being requested because of an increase in cost of living expenses.

County Auditor Doreen Pliner told Lewandowski that she would do the calculations to find out what additional money would be needed besides the 82 cents to equal a 4 percent increase.

Budget presentations will continue Thursday. At least nine departments are scheduled to make presentations then.
