Eilers Steakhouse, Budget Host Inn closing
Delinquent property taxes on the two businesses total $53,312
Budget Host Inn and Eilers Steakhouse will both be closing, Joseph McMahon Jr., the owner of the two businesses, confirmed on Thursday.
McMahon did not provide dates on when the businesses would be shuttered.
He also did not offer any further information regarding why he’s closing the businesses.
Webster County records for the property, located at 116 Kenyon Road West, show a total of $53,312 in unpaid property taxes.
McMahon, who also owns Laser Auto Wash, 207 Ave. O, said he wasn’t sure if that business would be closing.
Eilers the restaurant was established at its Kenyon Road location in 2013, according to the 2017 Fort Dodge business directory. It staffs 25 people.
Eilers, which used to be called Eilers Hotel, was formerly located west of the city square in downtown Fort Dodge.
The hotel burned to the ground in February of 1994.
McMahon and his father, Joe McMahon Sr., agreed to sell their land to the city in 1998, according to Messenger records. The site sold for $100,000.
The city used that property in its efforts to build the Fort Dodge Public Library.
Budget Host Inn was established in 1994, according to the directory. It staffs 21 people.
