Tom Freiberg fills one of the tanks on his truck after a week of commuting from Fort Dodge to Webster City. He put $30 of gas in the vehicle Friday, and he expected he would pay more for the same amount when he filled up again the following week. Prices in the background are $2.29, $2.39 and $2.47. In August and September 2005, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf Coast of the U.S., damaging oil refineries and sending the cost of gasoline even higher.
