Renee McLaughlin worked with volunteers to begin remodeling a turn-of-the-century bank in Churdan into a coffeehouse and gift shop she was planning to open at the end of April 2005. The plan was that volunteers would do the same for other businesses new to Churdan, which would, in turn, donate to the Betterment Association, still in its infancy.
