Happy Birthday, Manson!

Three days of fun planned to mark city’s 150th

MANSON – The Calhoun County city of Manson will celebrate a big birthday later this month.

This year marks 150 years since the city was established, and three days of special activities are planned for June 24-26.

“We’re planning a weekend full of fun celebrating 150 years of Manson,” said Pam Steinberg, co-chair of the committee that planned the festivities. “We have so much going on.”

Many of the upcoming events are staples of the annual Greater Crater Days Celebration, such as the antique car and tractor show.

There will be a Crash My Crater Concert on June 25 featuring country singer Chris Janson.

To mark the historical nature of the event, there will be an all class reunion for Manson High School graduates. There will also be displays of Manson history items in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the public library. And Steinberg said the 1876 vintage jail at the fairgrounds will be open so people can mug for the camera from behind bars.

She said that proceeds from Sunday morning’s pancake breakfast will benefit the Doug and Nancy Seavert Trail that starts by Seventh Avenue on the south side of town.

On Sunday afternoon, there will be live entertainment on the City Hall Square featuring all local talent, according to Steinberg.

“We’re just having a birthday party,” she said.“Just come and have a good time.”

A volunteer committee has been working since August 2021 to plan the celebration.

“We’ve had some good committee members.” Steinberg said.
