Ornament decorating to be held at the Blanden

The Blanden Memorial Art Museum will be hosting a holiday group activity in December. Time slots are now open for their holiday ornament decorating event.

Marisha Erickson, Blanden’s art educator and assistant director, said they are excited to provide opportunities for families and friends to gather and participate in meaningful activities.

“Families will have the art space to themselves to create together and can look forward to bringing their ornaments home for holiday decorating,” said Erickson.

There will be six time slots available throughout December. Currently, there are two slots on Dec. 4, three slots on Dec. 11, and one slot on Dec. 18.

“There is no maximum to the number of people within each group but each kit comes with four ornaments and extra ornaments are $5 each. Groups can also purchase multiple kits,” said Erickson.

Time slots will be one hour each with just one group per slot. Erickson said they will provide all the supplies as well as have hot chocolate and cookies. Each kit includes four ceramic ornaments and glazes. Kits are $40 or $35 for Blanden Members and $5 per additional ornament.

The ornaments will be fired in the kiln and will be ready to be picked up in time for holiday decorating.

The Blanden offers several art classes and events both in-person and virtual. Upcoming classes include kids printmaking, a pastels abstract virtual workshop, adult painting basics, a kids ceramic camp, and many more. Virtual classes often include a free kit with supplies that can be picked up from the museum. All classes and events are listed on their website.
