Sacred Sounds concert comes to Crossroads Mall
Concert kicks off college’s music season
The annual Sacred Sounds fall concert for Iowa Central Community College’s vocal music ensembles will be 7 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Crossroads Mall.
“The Sacred Sounds is kind of the kickoff of our music season,” said Will Lopes, director of vocal music at Iowa Central. “It’s the very first concert that our performing arts will produce. The idea of the concert is really to bring not just the spiritual and religious side, but it’s just bringing this message of hope, message of peace.”
The concert will feature the Triton Singers, Encore Singers and Vocal Jazz ensembles from the college.
This year’s concert will look a little different than those in the past, Lopes said. Instead of performing at a community church, Decker Auditorium or other traditional venue, the concert will be in the center atrium at the Crossroads Mall. The concert will also feature the Jive for Five brass ensemble as well as community and alumni singers.
“We have invited the community and alumni to come and join us,” Lopes said. “This is open to anyone that would like to sing.”
The rehearsals for the community members or alumni will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 16 and Sept. 23 at Iowa Central.
“This brings everybody together as a community to sing beautiful music,” Lopes said.
Lopes hopes to bring “a lot of commotion and people” to the mall the night of the concert.
“I think that the community should come for a couple of different reasons,” he said. “I think the musical diversity that they will see is great and the fact that we’re involving singers from the community.”
The Sept. 30 Sacred Sounds concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Crossroads Mall and is free and open to the public.
