In a perfect world, every dog would have a home with a family to protect at night and every cat would have a loving family to own. Sadly, there are many dogs and cats that aren’t living this luxurious lifestyle.

For those pets without a home, Almost Home Humane Society of North Central Iowa steps in to provide the essentials — food, water and shelter.

The animals are continuously going through food, litter, cleaning supplies, toys, and more, and those items must be replenished regularly. This is why financial support from the community is so vital.

Almost Homecoming 2019 will be a key event providing that financial support.

The Oct. 19 event will feature food, drink and music.

It will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Shimkat Motor Co., 3126 Fifth Ave. S.

Tickets are $50. All proceeds will go into the organization’s general fund to keep the shelter running.

Want to go all in for Almost Homecoming 2019? Rock that fabulous formal dress from freshman homecoming? Or party the night away in that suit that was oh-so-glorious back in the day? Guests are also welcome to come as they are in their most comfortable clothing.

“I love the idea of reliving the ‘night out’ of my youth,” said board member Andrea Minnikis. “With all the great radio tunes in that day and the styles we wore … it’s a real step back in time.”

For those who would like to sponsor the event, there are two different sponsorship levels. Those who provide a $250 sponsorship will receive two complimentary passes to the event and a company logo on all marketing materials. Those who provide a $500 sponsorship will receive four complimentary passes to the event, a company logo on all event marketing materials, and one complimentary use of the Clement Community Center at Almost Home Humane Society.

To be included in all marketing materials, sponsorship commitment and logo should be submitted to the shelter manager, Rachel, at manager@almosthomeiowa.org no later than Saturday. Sponsorships received after the deadline may still make it into some promotional materials, but Almost Home cannot guarantee inclusion on all materials.

Almost Home Humane Society is a limited intake no-kill shelter that receives no government funding and is funded solely by donations. It must continually raise funds throughout the year to make sure the needs of all animals in the facility are well-cared for.

Movie Night at the Dog Park

In addition to Almost Homecoming 2019 in October, Almost Home will host another Movie Night at the Dog Park on Saturday, with the movie starting at 8:30 pm. Guests of the dog park should bring their own blankets or lawn chairs for seating and are welcome to bring their four-legged friends as long as they are leashed. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children aged 5 through 17, and free for children 4 and under. Concessions will be available for purchase at the event as well, including pop, candy, and popcorn.
