The Lizard Creek Blues Society is swinging into its annual Blues Under The Trees fest with slow rock and smooth vocal vibrations from a local, national and international artist lineup.

Blues is kept in the heart of Americana and often tells stories of love, soul and passion. African influences run deep in the roots of the melancholy music.

“This year’s Blues Under the Trees will provide excellent live music entertainment with this lineup,” said Bob Wood, president of the Lizard Creek Blues Society. ”No event in Iowa this year will have better entertainment and it is right here in your backyard.”

The celebration of the blues will be July 28 at Sports Park Raceway south of Fort Dodge. The gates will open at 1 p.m. and the shows begin at 2 p.m.

Featured performers include husband and wife duo Joe and Vicki Price, “Feelin’ Freaky” creator John Nemeth, international musician Kevin KF Burt and Selwyn Birchwood.

Everyone is welcome to attend Blues Under the Trees. The event is family- and kid-friendly.

“I’m extremely excited to help bring a great event to this community and keep the tradition of Blues Under the Trees moving forward for years to come.” said Cameron Nelson, vice president of the Lizard Creek Blues Society.

Tickets are $25 in advance can be purchased at Access Audio and Accessories, 500 First Ave. S.; Hy-Vee in Fort Dodge and Humboldt; Riemen Music, 1024 Central Ave.; and AvailaBank, 130 N. 29th St. They can also be purchased at the door for $30. Parking is free.

“We have always said this event and venue is Iowa’s best-kept secret,” said Sara O’Leary, a founder of the society who serves on its board, “It is fun to look at the license plates in the parking lot to see where people are coming from. We have had fans from California and even Canada, along with other surrounding states.”
