WEBSTER CITY — Junquefest 2018 is just around the corner and organizers are expecting a large turnout for the weekend event in Webster City.

“Junquefest 2018 will be held over Memorial Day weekend in downtown Webster City and will feature the best in primitive, vintage, repurposed, yard art, rusty finds, architectural salvage, up-cycled items, painted products, hand-made items and more,” said Kristen Crystal, event team leader and Chamber board member.

Crystal said there will be entertainment each day.

New this year is a food court with picnic table seating.

Other new additions to the event this year include a pancake breakfast fundraiser hosted by American Legion Post 191 and a church service in the park on Sunday morning.

The Farmers Market will be located downtown every Saturday this year, including JunqueFest weekend, and will include many local vendors and food producers.

A street dance with a live band is being planned by The Grid Iron Family Grill & Sports Lounge located on the east side of Webster City.

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the event and are needed during show hours:

• Friday, May 25 from noon to 7 p.m.

• Saturday, May 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Sunday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“This is the largest event that the Chamber coordinates each year and we need help to make it awesome,” said Denise Smith, vendor coordinator and Chamber board member. “We have a task list of things that need to be done prior to and during the event.”

Volunteers can sign up for specific tasks in two-hour time slots. To streamline the process and to provide updated information about what opportunities are available, the Chamber has created an online sign-up form. Visit www.junquefest.com, scroll down to the volunteer section and click on the button that says “Choose a spot on SignUp” to view volunteer options available and to choose the desired time.

There is no need to register an account or use a password, just use an email address which will not be shared. Volunteers can also contact the Chamber office, 515-832-2564, to sign up.

Vendor applications

There is still time to sign up to be a vendor with registration online at www.junquefest.com. Show information and a running list of vendors is being added to the website as it comes available.

Chamber Executive Director Linda Christianson said Junquefest is an opportunity to showcase the community.

“It is our hope that this event will increase the awareness of what Webster City has to offer so more people will come back and bring their friends and family,” she said.

“Last year we had thousands of people come for the event and we had a lot of positive feedback about our businesses and a boost to our local economy.”
