Annual Alzheimer’s walk is Saturday

The annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Rosedale Rapids aquatic center, 1111 North 32nd St. The walk will begin in the parking lot and continue out on the surrounding trails up to 2 miles.

Participants will learn about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved with this cause, from advocacy opportunities, the latest in Alzheimer’s research and clinical trial enrollment to support programs and services. Each walker will also join in a ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and is now the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s.

The event will also feature guest speakers Chip Evans, Mike Hogan and Kathy Crimmins, singers Loren Schwendemann and Jessica Krause, gymnasts from Hollingsworth, walk sponsor tables, Alzheimer’s Association Merchandise and more. The path at the Aquatic Center is wheelchair and stroller friendly, and well-behaved pets on a leash may join. Start or join a team today at alz.org/walk, or for more information call 576-4884.
