Thanks first responders for their help

To the editor: To the people of Fort Dodge, I just want you to know how fortunate we are to have such fine public service personnel in our city. The Sheriff’s Department, city police, state troopers, city street crew and especially our fire and rescue department. Their quick response to my wife’s tragic accident on June 15 was very much appreciated. I can’t say enough how thorough and compassionate the Fire Department crew was in clearing up the accident scene. Also many thanks to Corey and Nikki and the whole Rides Bar and Grill family for their help and support. Thank you. ...

Says guns should require a ‘permission slip’

To the editor: I read Tim Kraayenbrink’s recent article about eliminating a permit to carry a concealed weapon. First, I am not anti-gun, owning more than I need and I have held a concealed weapon permit for 30 years. Tim says we should not need a permission slip from the government to take a gun to the grocery store. But I do need a permission slip to drive a car, go hunting, fishing or trapping, install a septic tank, build a deck, travel overseas, vote, or for that matter, cut someone’s hair for a living. Does that make sense? It was not difficult under the old system to get a ...

Car club leader likes FD

To the editor: A quick thank you to the people of Fort Dodge. I have just returned from a weekend trip to your city. May I say, Fort Dodge has it going in the right direction. The Hawkeye Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club spent June 18-20 touring in and around Fort Dodge. What a great time we had. The Guido van Helton Silo Mural was worth the trip by itself! I am a car guy not a art person, but the detail on that painting is unbelievable. Grain silos are a necessary evil in Iowa. I have never seen any the least bit attractive until now. You have a nice little parking lot ...

Says Swing for a Cure was a success

To the editor: The 16th annual Swing for a Cure golf outing was held on June 4 this year at the Fort Dodge Country Club. The weather was picture perfect with 30 teams enjoying the fun-filled day. The outpouring of generosity and support this event receives year after year is a wonderful tribute to this community’s members and businesses. The event raises funds that are utilized in the outpatient Diabetes Center at Trinity Regional Medical Center. The invaluable education provided by this center gives those with diabetes the knowledge and skills necessary to lead a long and healthy ...

Advocates for others to get vaccinated

To the editor: Recently it was a day of celebration for me and thousands of others when I got my second shot for the virus on May 18, knowing from now on we won’t give this virus to someone we love. After the shot I got the sore arm, but that’s nothing compared to getting the virus and being flat on your back laying in a hospital, looking at four walls with tubes up your nostrils hooked up to a ventilator 24/7. It happened to two friends of mine. Then they told me the horror stories of what it was like. No visitors all that time besides being so sick. Just about as bad as a death ...
