Elderbridge Agency on Aging and Upper Des Moines Opportunity are partnering for Santa for Seniors. As the holiday season approaches, seniors in our community need support, now more than ever. In some cases, seniors in our area are living on a very limited income and may not be with their family at Christmas. With the help of the community, their holiday season can be a little jollier and give them something to smile about on Christmas. WCCT play to feature werewolves

WEBSTER CITY — Werewolves that are afraid of being bitten by humans are featured in Webster City Community Theatre’s upcoming show. The one act comedy is called “Who Needs a Full Moon?” It features five female werewolves who fear that one of them has been bitten by a human. The cast includes Kelly Anderson, Susan Andrew, Nikki Ehn, Ann McLaughlin and Mary Sealine. The show was written by Sally Evans, who is directing it. Katie Hildal is the production manager. Fireside Chat is Oct. 26

A Fireside Chat will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at Camp WaNoKi, 2400 WaNoKi Camp Road. Ever hiked in the dark? Enjoy the mysteries of the night with a guide leading the way following a trail of luminaries. Learn about nocturnal woodland animals and their adaptations for survival. Bring a headlamp if you have one; a limited supply will be provided. The Fireside Chats are open to the public and generally geared for all ages, with families in mind. FD Alzheimer’s walk raised $15K

Those who took a walk Saturday morning to help defeat Alzheimer’s disease raised about $15,000, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. About 100 people participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Fort Dodge Middle School, 800 N. 32nd St. The walk’s top team was Team Millie, led by Kelley Niblett. It raised more than $2,800 in memory of Niblett’s mother and uncle who both died of the disease. Team Ryan Kent Edward Jones raised more than $1,800. Ribbon-cutting set for Baby Box

The installation of a Safe Haven Baby Box at the Fort Dodge firehouse will be marked Thursday with a ribbon-cutting. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the firehouse, 1515 Central Ave. A Safe Haven Baby Box allows for the legal, safe and anonymous surrender of an infant under the state’s new Safe Haven law. On-street parking will be available on Central Avenue. The intersection of Central Avenue and 15th Street will be closed for the event.

Registration deadline for Extension’s fermentation workshop is Friday

Learn all the basics of small batch fermentation and making sauerkraut at a food preservation workshop on Oct. 17. The workshop offered at the Webster County Extension and Outreach office in Fort Dodge is part of ISU Extension and Outreach’s Preserve the Taste of Summer program.
