Clarion woman, 24, dies in U.S. 69 crash

Road conditions blamed for fatal accident

BLAIRSBURG – A Clarion woman was killed in a crash Monday afternoon when she lost control on a slick road and collided with another auto near Blairsburg in Hamilton County.

Andrea Martul, 24, was headed north just after noon on U.S. Highway 69 south of its intersection with old Highway 20, according to a report from the Iowa State Patrol.

The ISP report said Martul lost control of her 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor on the snow and slush-covered road.

It collided with a southbound 1996 Isuzu Trooper driven by Mark Yeager, 36, of Blairsburg.

Martul was pronounced dead at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City.

According to Sgt. Aaron Smidt, assistant district commander at ISP Post 7, Yeager sustained severe, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. The Iowa State Patrol and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call.
