Webster City offers opportunity for artists
Proposal deadline is March 10
WEBSTER CITY — Arts R Alive in Webster City, Iowa has an opportunity for an artist or artist team to create a permanent work of public art to be located in a public location in the city. Interested artists may go to webstercity.com to see a map and read about Webster City.
Public artists from throughout the Midwest are eligible; however, there are minimal travel reimbursement funds.
The Arts R Alive Committee is looking for a letter of interest that identifies the artist’s qualifications. That would include, but is not limited to, a resume, work samples, website, and pictures of work.
A jury will choose up to three finalists. Each finalist will be paid $350 to prepare concept and sketch drawings of the proposed piece and provide a detailed budget.
Finalists will present their proposal to the jury between 4 to 7 p.m. on June 5 in Webster City, either in person or via Skype. Motel accommodations can be paid for one night and up to $100 is available for travel.
A stipend of $9,000 will be paid to the artist upon completion and installation of the piece.
Materials to be submitted include the following items:
∫ A letter of interest briefly explaining why the artist wants to create a sculpture for Webster City, a description of the artist’s experience with sculpture projects, a description of materials to be used, and artist’s contact information.
∫ Up to six work samples in electronic JPEG formatted for each piece submitted. Also include the name, title, medium, year created, budget and a brief description of the pieces.
Deadline for letter of interest and qualifications is March 10. All materials should be sent electronically to info@artsralive.org.
This project is made available by funds from Arts R Alive in Webster City and the Hotel Motel Tax Committee of Webster City.
