BADGER — As costumed children made their way around Badger at Halloween last year, many of them stopped by tables set up outside the Community Center by members of the local Lions Club. There, they could get a hot dog, a drink and a small prize.

That Halloween celebration was one of the projects the small but active Badger Lions Club was able to do last year even as the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to so many activities.

Club members hope to do more of that sort of thing this year.

“My goal is to hopefully do some kind of events for the children in the community,” club President Roger Curtis said.

Cleaning up roadside ditches is also on his list of projects for the club in 2021.

During the past year, club members were able to adapt their projects to the reality of COVID-19 rather quickly.

As the pandemic hit in the spring, it became apparent that the traditional Easter egg hunt would not be possible, so it was replaced with an Easter egg delivery. Curtis said club members filled plastic eggs with treats and then took them to the homes of children.

In October, the traditional pancake feed, which helps fund the club’s work, was converted from a sit-down dinner to one in which people picked up pancakes to go.

“We had a successful drive-thru pancake feed,” Curtis said. “We had a good turnout for that and people were generous.”

During the past year, the club also donated money to the Lord’s Cupboard and the Salvation Army.

The club, which usually has less than10 members on its roster, was chartered in 1973.
