Wagner enters Hall of Honor

Raegan (Schultz) Wagner was never alone when she stepped on the track. In fact her best friend was always by her side while competing in high school and college. Wagner and her twin sister, Lindsay, are 2000 Manson Northwest Webster graduates who continued their careers with the Central ...

The Russian conspiracy that won’t die

The Mueller report accomplished nothing. Whether you thought that the two-year, $32 million investigation was warranted or not, the report promised to establish a factual record that both sides could accept, especially on the explosive charge that Donald Trump had conspired with the Russians to win the American presidency. It did indeed establish such a record, at great length, after a formidable team of investigators and prosecutors searched high and low for evidence and got extensive cooperation from the White House (but only answers to written questions from President Trump). ...

Rebuilding after betrayal

Dear Annie: I read “Dear Annie” now, just as I read “Ask Ann Landers” and “Dear Abby” starting in the 1950s. I hope you can give me some advice. My husband, “Fred,” and I have been married for 58 years. We met when we were both working in Washington, D.C. We were 18 years old. We dated for 3 1/2 years. I had some reservations because he spoke of “Mother” frequently, often using the phrase “Mother said.” Once I got to know ...

Republicans’ impeachment strategy a tribute to Jackson Pollock

Maybe you’re a fan of Jackson Pollock’s paint-splatter stuff. That’s cool. My only point is that when you flick paint at a canvas, nobody expects the result to look like a tree, a person or a bowl of fruit. Similarly, in politics, when you throw everything against the wall to see what will stick, the result probably won’t be pretty, and it definitely won’t paint a coherent picture. This is both the stupidity and the genius of the Republican defense of President Trump in the impeachment inquiry. First, the stupidity. Here are just a few examples. Trump’s defense hinges ...

Career concerns overwhelming for student

Dear Annie: I’m in my last year of a pre-university study program and need to choose a university program in a couple of months. The problem is that I haven’t the slightest idea of what I want to do. This decision is going to affect the rest of my life, and I feel incredibly unprepared. Of course, there are the programs my parents want me to go into such as accounting or economics, which would guarantee a high salary. I don’t think I would enjoy those high-paying jobs, though. I really like social sciences, but I know I’ll never get money from studying one of those majors. I ...
