No. 6 Utah 49, Cincinnati 25

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Devon Dampier threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns and No. 6 Utah extended the nation’s longest active winning streak with a 49-25 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday.

The Utes (8-0, 5-0, Big 12) have won 14 straight games, longest active streak in FBS and their longest since winning 16 straight from Dec. 20, 2007, to Sept. 12, 2009.

The Utes are 8-0 for the first time since 2010 and have won 10 consecutive Big 12 games.

The Bearcats (5-3, 2-3) were coming off an upset of previously unbeaten Texas Tech, but no unranked team has beaten top-10 opponents in back-to-back weeks since South Carolina in 2022.

Utah possessed the ball for more than 10 minutes in the first quarter to take control.

The Utes drove 78 yards in 12 plays on their first possession and Dampier’s 4-yard TD pass to Hunter Andrews put them ahead 7-0.

Andrews finished with five catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns.

Wayshawn Parker scored on a 13-yard TD run, capping a 75-yard drive to make it 14-3. Parker rushed for 82 yards.

Early in the second quarter, Utah’s Rabbit Evans returned a fumble 51 yards for a touchdown to make the score 21-3. It was the first fumble return TD for the Utes since 2022.

The Bearcats had a chance to get back in the game after a 63-yard completion to Malachi Henry gave them first-and-goal. But a holding penalty and a sack forced a 35-yard field-goal attempt which was missed.

Utah put the game out of reach after that.

NO. 1 MIAMI 38, NORTH CAROLINA 35

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Mark Fletcher Jr. punched in the go-ahead 2-yard touchdown run on fourth down with 7:49 left and Miami followed with a critical takeaway, helping the Hurricanes finally shake free to beat North Carolina and avoid a seismic upset.

Marquise Lightfoot and Justin Scott followed Fletcher’s third score of the night by teaming up for the Hurricanes’ critical stop, with Lightfoot stripping illy Edwards Jr. from behind as he tried to throw, with Scott recovering the fumble with 5:33 left.

That became what turned into the deciding sequence for the Hurricanes (8-0, 6-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). Their high-powered offense followed by stretching the lead, getting a terrific individual effort on Elija Lofton’s leap over a would-be tackler on a catch to move the chains and ultimately set up Darian Mensah’s 9-yard scoring strike to star receiver Malachi Toney to make it 38-28 with 2:33 left.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 30, NO.2 OHIO STATE 18

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Jayden Maiava passed for 222 yards and a touchdown, King Miller and Waymond Jordan rushed for scores, and Southern California stunned Ohio State for the biggest win of head coach Lincoln Riley’s tenure.

Freshman sensation Trent Mosley made a 69-yard TD catch on the second play from scrimmage and finished with five receptions for 101 yards for the Trojans (7-2, 4-2 Big Ten), who scored more points than Ohio State’s vaunted defense had allowed since 2024.

The USC defense didn’t allow a touchdown in the first 57 minutes by an Ohio State offense led by freshman quarterback Luke Fahey, who passed for 260 yards in his first career start in place of injured Julian Sayin for the Buckeyes (6-2, 4-1).

Jeremiah Smith finally scored on a 1-yard catch with 2:12 remaining, but the Buckeyes’ 2-point conversion attempt failed, and USC recovered the onside kick before making its third field goal with 1:46 left.

NO. 3 GEORGIA 27, NO. 17 FLORIDA 8

ATLANTA (AP) -- Chris Cole returned a fumble recovery 66 yards for a touchdown and Georgia took advantage of four turnovers by Florida to beat the Gators.

Tramell Jones Jr., Florida’s second quarterback, fumbled when sacked by Quintavius Johnson late in the first half. Cole picked up the loose ball and scored on his second long fumble return of the season. Cole also scored on an 85-yard return in Georgia’s 41-13 win over Oklahoma on Sept. 26.

Georgia (7-1, 5-1 Southeastern Conference) enjoyed a strong recovery from its last-second 27-24 loss to Auburn on Oct. 17. Florida (5-3, 3-3) was unable to deliver a second-straight win over a top 10 team following its 27-24 upset of No. 7 Texas.

Georgia outrushed Florida 217-48 in gaining its sixth consecutive win in the rivalry.

Aaron Philo struggled in his return as Florida’s starting quarterback after missing the Texas game with a right shoulder injury. Philo was benched after throwing two interceptions, including one on an underhanded heave when pressured that was picked off by Ellis Robinson IV.

NO. 4 INDIANA 23, MINNESOTA 16, OT

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Backup quarterback Grant Wilson threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Becker on the first play of overtime, and Indiana came up with a stop on Minnesota’s possession to close out a victory.

Indiana (8-1, 5-1 Big Ten) needed overtime for the second straight week to avoid a potentially damaging second loss as it tries to defend the national championship. Last week, the Hoosiers beat won 13-6 at Michigan.

And this one looked was over when the Golden Gophers (5-3, 3-2) took a 16-13 lead with 19 seconds to go on Luke Drzewiecki’s career long 60-yard field goal. But Charlie Becker’s 33-yard catch set up Paddy McAteer for a career-long 60-yarder to tie it as time expired.

Minnesota fell to 0-13 against defending national champs and still has not beaten Top 25 opponents in back-to-back weeks since 1956.

Indiana pulled struggling starting quarterback Josh Hoover at halftime after he took a big shot on his second interception of the season, and two late replay reviews overturned potential game-winning situations -- one erasing a go-ahead TD pass, the other taking away an interception that would have put Indiana deep in Minnesota territory in the final minutes.

NO. 5 NOTRE DAME 35, NAVY 13

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- CJ Carr passed for 210 yards and two touchdowns, and Nolan James Jr. added TD runs of 52 and 23 yards to help Notre Dame pull away for its ninth straight victory over Navy.

James finished with nine carries for 107 yards. Jonaz Walton added a 3-yard touchdown run, and Jerome Bettis Jr. had a 31-yard TD catch for the Fighting Irish (7-1), who successfully bounced back after their road loss at BYU two weeks ago. Notre Dame finished with 426 yards, its fifth time amassing 400-plus yards this season.

Quarterback Jackson Gutierrez rushed 28 times for 110 yards for the Midshipmen (2-6), who haven’t won a game in the long-running series since 2016.

It was also the second straight loss for Navy in neutral site games played at Gillette Stadium, home to the NFL’s New England Patriots. The Midshipmen also lost to Army in Foxborough in their 2023 meeting.

Leading 14-13 at halftime, Notre Dame scored on each of its first three possessions of the second half to take control.

Notre Dame’s defense came in allowing only 67.3 yards per game on the ground. Gutierrez surpassed that in the second quarter.

NO. 11 TEXAS 31, MISSISSIPPI STATE 3

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Arch Manning passed for three touchdowns, Maraad Watson returned a fumble 61 yards for a score just before halftime and Texas beat Mississippi State.

Texas (6-2, 3-2 Southeastern Conference) also got another dominant defensive effort to stay in the thick of the SEC title chase. The Longhorns have won twice in a row after dropping consecutive midseason games.

Manning connected with Cam Coleman from 14 yards out for Texas’ first touchdown on the fourth play of the night. The game turned into a defensive struggle before Watson’s touchdown just as the Bulldogs were trying to trim a 10-0 deficit before halftime.

Mississippi State transfer quarterback AJ Swann, making his first start of the season in place of injured Kamario Taylor, was sacked and the ball bounced straight to Watson. The 6-foot-3, 333-pound defensive tackle had a clear path to the end zone and a group of blockers to escort him.

NO. 12 MISSISSIPPI 45, AUBURN 15

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) -- Trinidad Chambliss threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another and Mississippi pulled away for a win over Auburn.

Leading 17-15, Chambliss had a 26-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to give Ole Miss a nine-point lead. He added a 6-yard TD pass to Caleb Cunningham and a 28-yarder to Horatio Fields in the fourth quarter for Ole Miss (6-2, 4-2 SEC).

Chambliss was 22 of 34 passing and rushed for 65 yards on seven carries.

Backup quarterback Deuce Knight scored on a 17-yard run to complete a 21-point fourth quarter for the Rebels.

Ole Miss, looking for a spark in its running game with its star back Kewan Lacy out with a separated shoulder, found it in sophomore Shekai Mills-Knight, whose 1-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter helped the Rebels lead 14-9 at halftime. Mills-Knight had just 42 yards through the first seven games, but finished with 71 yards on 16 carries.

NO. 13 TEXAS TECH. 34, NO. 22 ARIZONA 26

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Tommy Castellanos threw two touchdown passes and ran for 117 yards and a score as the starter over Will Hammond, and No. 13 Texas Tech beat No. 22 Arizona 34-26 on Saturday in a matchup that was pivotal to the Big 12 title and College Football Playoff hopes of both teams.

J’Koby Williams ran 64 yards for a decisive touchdown and finished with 175 yards as the Red Raiders (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) tied a school record with their 13th consecutive home victory a week after a loss to Cincinnati that led to the benching of Hammond.

Noah Fifita finished with 417 yards passing and a 94-yard touchdown to Isaiah Mizell, who 182 yards receiving in his third consecutive game with at least 100 yards -- the first three of the sophomore’s career.

The Wildcats (6-2, 3-2) had a five-game winning streak stopped while losing freshman receiver R.J. Mosley to an apparently serious left leg injury.

Both teams entered the game tied for second in the Big 12 behind undefeated No. 6 Utah.

Castellanos put Texas Tech ahead for good with a 27-yard scoring pass to Kenny Johnson on fourth-and-2 late in the third quarter. The Red Raiders took a 24-23 lead because Ansel Nedore blocked the PAT kick after Kedrick Reescano’s go-ahead 1-yard touchdown run on the previous drive.

SYRACUSE 30, NO. 19 SMU 27

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- Steve Angeli hit little-used tight end Noah Meyers on a 2-yard scoring strike with 17 seconds to go and Syracuse defeated SMU.

The Orange (4-4, 2-4 ACC) got the ball on their own 32-yard line with 3:36 remaining while trailing 27-23. Angeli led Syracuse on an 11-play drive capped by Meyers’ first touchdown for Syracuse.

It was Syracuse’s first win over a ranked team since Nov. 30, 2024.

Angeli was 21 of 34 and 200 yards and opened the scoring with a 26-yard run early in the first quarter. Umari Hatcher had six catches for 65 yards.

Kevin Jennings threw for two scores and Kendrick Raphael ran 14 yards for what appeared to be a game-winner for SMU (6-2, 4-2) with nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter. His score gave the Mustangs a 27-20 lead, but Tripp Woody’s third field goal of the game brought Syracuse to 27-23 with 5:26 remaining.

Jennings was 29 of 36 for 351 yards with scoring strikes to Jalen Hale and Yamir Knight. Knight had six receptions for 80 yards. Raphael had five receptions for 33 yards and 51 more on the ground.

OREGON 34, NO. 20 NORTHWESTERN 26

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Dylan Raiola completed 22 of 31 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns to help Oregon rally to beat Northwestern.

Raiola made his second straight start for the Ducks (5-3, 3-2 Big Ten) with Dante Moore ruled out for the season.

NO. 23 MISSOURI 34, ARKANSAS 10

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Austin Simmons threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns, and Jamal Roberts had 158 total yards and two touchdowns as Missouri topped Arkansas.

The Tigers (6-2, 3-2 Southeastern Conference) led 13-7 at halftime despite its offense failing to score. But in the third quarter, Simmons connected on a 15-yard touchdown to Donovan Olugbode and Roberts later added a two-yard run to push the Missouri edge to 27-7 with 9:47 left.

Points off turnovers were critical for the Tigers as they turned three Arkansas fumbles and a KJ Jackson interception into 24 points, including a defensive score on Darris Smith’s fumble recovery in the end zone late in the first quarter for a 10-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Simmons hit Roberts for a 10-yard touchdown with 7:19 remaining to set the final score. Roberts rushed for 138 yards on 23 carries and caught three passes for 20 yards.
