Manson NW edged in gold; Dodger boys 4th in Purple

WEBSTER CITY -- It came down to six runners to declare the champion of the boys Gold Division at the Lynx Invitational on Tuesday.
Roland-Story and Manson Northwest Webster finished with 77 points through five runners, but with a 41st out of their No. 6 and a 45th from the Cougars sixth, Roland-Story was the team champion.
Corben Lucchesi (17:08.56) was the individual champion for the Norseman.
Freshman Levi Ollinger (18:09.74) and Kyle Widlund (18:13.80) were third and fifth for the Cougars.
Logan Meyer (19:46.76) was 17th, while Rowan Poutre (19:55.57) was 19th and Thomas Lundberg (22:09.81) was 47th.
Fort Dodge
The Dodgers turned in a strong performance in a loaded field of the Purple Division.
Fort Dodge was fourth, behind the top-ranked team (3A) in the state, Gilbert (23), Nevada (73). The Dodgers tied with Waverly-Shell Rock with 100 points each. The Go-Hawks earned third place with a better sixth runner.
"I thought we did pretty well (on the boys side)," said Fort Dodge head coach Austin Read. "We talked to the guys about our goal of being in the top three. We ran pretty well and if a few things went a little different, we would have been.
"I feel like we ran a technically sound race. It was awesome to see our top guys PR in tough conditions."
Senior Cael Hansen (17:36.42) had the top showing for the Dodgers in seventh place. Jayce Point (17:49.96) was ninth and Jones Hensley (18:22.92) was 17th. Rounding out the counters for the Dodgers was Corban McHone (24th 18:57.21) and Grant Maxson (20:24.93 in 44th).
Also running for the Dodgers were Wayner Landon (21:49.92 in 62nd) and Myles Summers (22:17.58) in 67th.
"It was great to run against tough competition," Read said. "For Cael it's huge to be up there at the front and be able to run with those guys.
"It will benefit him as the season goes on."
St. Edmond
Erik Larson and Aidan Reel both finished in the Top-15 for the Gaels, who were fifth in the team race with 119 points.
"We talked before about not worrying about the heat and just going out and running," said St. Edmond head coach Mike Szalat. "If you go in with a negative mindset, that's going to hurt you, but if you go in with a good mindset it helps in building your mental toughness.
"I'm very pleased with the kids and that's what we need to. We got mentally tougher."
Larson (19:05.15) was 10th and Reel (19:24.78) was 13th. Andrew Barwin (20:30.64) was 27th, Gordon Seeden (21:04.87) was 33rd and Ethan Cibert (21:42.49) placed 41st.
Also running for St. Edmond was Abram Ribbens (22:18.15 in 49th) and Dylan Brokaw (25:05.79) in 67th.
"We've been talking and I feel like Erik is one of those guys that can go out a little faster in the 800," Szalat said. "That might be a better prescription for him to do that.
"Aidan Pr'd by about 30 seconds and our sixth man Abram stepped up. We threw some freshmen in the mix and they Pr'd as well. Dylan had a good time and I think we grew as a program."
Southeast Valley
The Jaguars were third in the team race with 87 points, placing all five runners in the Top-25.
Owen Nuss (19:14.32) was 11th, and Griffin Vote (19:41.28) was 15th.
Rounding out the counting runners were Landon Vote (20th in 19:55.75), Kasen Loeffler (21st in 19:58.42) and August Akins (20:22.67) in 24th.
Humboldt
The Wildcats top finisher was Henry Kramer (18:11.62) who was fourth. Bentley Rodgers (20:27.81) broke into the Top-25 in 25th.
Also counting for the Wildcats was (Callen Matthis (21:30.15 in 39th), Miles Zeman (21:31.31) was 40th.
Webster City
Dan Murillo-Delfin (18:22.11) was the top runner for the Lynx, placing 15th. Aidan Wardell (18:59.6) was 25th and eighth-grader Max Barrick (19:40.26) placed 35th.
Also counting for the Lynx was Kaleb Draeger (19:48.37 in 35th) and Jordan Betts (20:05.75) in 39th.
Algona
The Bulldogs placed two runners in the Top-20.
Brooks Morgan (18:17.99) was 13th and Axton Hood (18:44.55) was 19th.
Eagle Grove
Hunt Waldo-Martinez (18:34.11) was the top Eagle in sixth place. Stetson Kvale (20:28.45) was 26th.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows
Logan Torsell (19:35.05) and Carson Gump (19:43.80) were the top two finishers for the Cowboys in 14th and 16th respectively.
