Iowa hosts Northern Iowa

IOWA CITY – Before entering Big Ten Conference play, the Iowa football team looks to move to 3-0 when they host Northern Iowa here Saturday.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT with the game airing live on FS1.

The Hawkeyes (2-0 overall) escaped with a 16-13 victory over Iowa State last week on a game-winning field goal by Caden Buhr. They have won five straight games overall dating back to the end of the 2025-26 season.

But the offense could feature several new faces this week, as starting tight end DJ Vonnahme has already been ruled out. Leading rusher Kamari Moulton and his backup, LJ Phillips, Jr., are both questionable.

Hank Brown and Tony Diaz will look to lead things. Brown has thrown for 320 yards and a touchdown, with Diaz catching 15 passes for 179 yards and a TD.

The Panthers (1-1) earned a convincing win over Drake last week, 56-14. They nearly pulled off a shocker in 2009 vs. Iowa, losing 17-16 after having two field goals blocked.

Jaxon Dailey, a former Southeast Polk star, has thrown for 529 yards and three touchdowns on the season. Brady McCullough has eight receptions for over 100 yards with a score.

"Coach (Todd) Stepsis is a really good football coach and did a great job at Drake," Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said. "You can see they're already putting their mark on the program at UNI right now. The quarterback did a good job last week, a big guy, left-hander, and he threw the ball really well.

"Receivers, tight ends, a good group of guys there that have been threatening and doing a good job."

Iowa will induct Gary Dolphin, Steve Roe, Steve Batterson and Mike Hlas into the Hawkeye Media Hall of Fame.

"All four have done great jobs," Ferentz said. "Just wish them the best and really appreciate the coverage that they provided for our program and for our fans."
