DODGERS ROLL

2 min read

The Fort Dodge girls tennis team picked up an impressive 10-1 victory over Mason CIty on Tuesday at Dodger Courts.

Fort Dodge won five singles matches and all five doubles contests.

Evah Nostrom had a tight win at No. 2 singles, beating Lilly Geving 7-6(8-6) and closing out with a 6-2 victory.

"Overall this was a solid win. The girls came out ready to play," said Fort Dodge head coach Julie Astor. Evah Nostrom fought hard for the tie break win in her first set. I could tell that really helped her confidence and she took care of business in the second set.

"She teamed up with Mia Carpenter in doubles and they both looked good. That confidence from Evah's singles match carried over into doubles & helped Mia settle in."

Teagan Loots continued the success with a 6-1 and 6-0 victory and Brooklyn Kaloupek won 6-0 and 6-1 at No. 4.

"Everyone from there played very well. I really saw the girls working on placing the ball and keeping the Riverhawks moving," Astor said. "Teagan Loots played very well. She is doing double duty with swimming & tennis. I am so pleased with her work and grit. She is always asking what she can work to win. I love her competitiveness."

Grace Rivera earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Allison Long and Evie Piton closed out singles, winning 6-1 and 6-2.

Mia Carpenter lost 6-3, and 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match for Fort Dodge.

Carpenter and Nostrom teamed up for a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Kaloupek and Rivera won 6-1, 6-1 and Loots and Calliegh Zimmermann earned a 6-0, 6-1 win.

Piton and Paisley Smith won 6-2, 6-3, while Daphne Groff an Charlotte Breeser closed out the match 6-2 and 6-1.

"Charlotte Breeser & Daphne Groff teamed up at the five doubles position and came out with a convincing win," Astor said. "It is hard to believe this is the first year of tennis for those two.

"Piton & Smith I think will be mentioned a lot this year still and the next three years. When they are focused they are hard to beat, only complimenting each other very well.

"We are coming to the end of the season, we need to continue to build on this momentum for 3 more regular season matches."

The Dodgers are back in action on Thursday when they host Des Moines North.
