Triton women grab gold in DM

DES MOINES — A big three-day stretch of track and field action by Iowa Central culminated in a Drake Relays title here Saturday.

The women’s distance medley captured gold in the college division of the race inside Drake Stadium, clocking a time of 11:49.37 to best a quartet from junior college rival Iowa Western.

Alivia Edens, Janae Dawes, Chadrak Belinda Bula Bula and Abbigail Hutchinson comprised the winning relay, which bested the quartet from the Reivers by over a full second. Edens placed the Tritons in fourth after her leg, with Dawes pushing them to second.

Bula Bula moved the unit to the front of the pack with a 2:12 split, as Hutchinson finished things off, holding Iowa Western off.

Saad Rifi Loutfi, Taha Ouchene, Said Rifi Loutfi and Soufyane Laaziz scored a second in the men’s distance medley college division, coming in just back of the Reivers in a time of 9:58.35. The two ICCAC schools went back-and-forth throughout the race, with Said Rifi Loutfi moving Iowa Central to the front before Iowa Western moved back in front over the final leg.

Dominic Ebensteiner reached the 100-meter finals, placing fifth overall in 10.93. University of Iowa sprint star Kalen Walker won in 10.3.
