Dodger swimmers in action at Mason City

MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge girls swim team jumped right back into the pool just days after a runner-up showing at their home Gary Winkler Invitational.

Mason City claimed the dual with the Dodgers, who came away with four individual titles and two relay first-place finishes.

Hailey Vogel won both the 50 free (25.52) and 100 free (55.93), and was the anchor leg on the winning 200 free relay (1:47.35) and 400 free relay (3:55.70).

Eileen Fierke started off both relays and also won the 200 free (2:02.96), while Julia Eastman swam the second leg and won the 100 butterfly (1:04.21).

Gracie Harvey was the third swimmer on the 200 free relay and Raegan Wooldridge the third on the 400 free relay.

“We swam hard for the most part,” FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont said. “Hailey looks amazing in the 50 and 100 free, really setting her up to have choices going into regionals. Eileen crushed the 200 free into an easy win for her and Julia is fixing her finish in the fly and it is paying off.

“We haven’t swam the 400 free relay with a stacked group in a while and that relay looks just as strong as the other two. We are definitely going to have options going into state.”

Fierke also earned a second in the 100 breaststroke.

For the FDSH junior varsity, GwendaLynn Winkler won the 200 free and 100 free, Emily Dawson the 100 butterfly and Rachel Moody the 100 breaststroke.

“We had the JV girls swim new events that pushed them,” Beaumont said. “I am definitely proud of my girls that rose up and got out of their comfort zone.”

Fort Dodge continues its busy week with a dual at Perry on Thursday.
