Marsh Memorial event tonight at Sports Park

A full lineup of action and festivities are scheduled for the Dicky Marsh Memorial Race at Sports Park Raceway on Friday night.

The track is honoring local racing fan Dick S. Marsh, who passed away last September from COVID-19 complications at the age of 79.

“He was a avid race fan, rarely missing a race here in Fort Dodge,” said Jeff Frevert, SPR owner. “His sons, Carl and Jason, are also big race fans.”

An additional $4,000 has been added to the overall purse for the drivers, and there will be an $8,000 fireworks show at the end of the night. The track will be giving away bikes and plenty of other items throughout the evening.

Regional and national points are being accumulated weekly in the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series at Sports Park Raceway in the United Plant Services USRA Modifieds, Marsh Concrete USRA Stock Cars, MC Mechanico USRA B-Mods, Pickett Salvage USRA Hobby Stocks and Matt’s Tire Service USRA Tuners events.

There is no entry fee for racers on Friday — just the weekly $30 pit pass. Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 7:30 and racing to follow.

Current points leaders for the season are Devon Havlik of Waterloo (USRA Mods), Bill Crimmins of Fort Dodge (USRA Stock Cars), Ty Griffith of Webster city (USRA B-Mods), Bryce Sommerfeld of Fort Dodge (USRA Hobby Stocks) and Oliver Monson of Humboldt (USRA Tuners).

Sports Park Raceway is located just under a mile north of U.S. Highway 20 on U.S. 169, and a half-mile east on 230th St. at 2298 South River Road.
