The Fort Dodge boys tennis team was unable to overcome Mason City here Thursday evening, falling 10-1.

Freshman Micah Flaherty and senior Luke Vaughan had the lone win for the Dodgers. The pair picked up a victory at the No. 1 doubles position over Reed Kruger and Zach Mulholland, 6-1, 6-3.

“They played well and I thought they played solid in singles, too,” said FDSH head coach Scott Messerly. “Micah and his opponent were pretty evenly matched as well. Luke is coming back from his injury nicely.

“They continue to get better.”

In singles, Flaherty fell to Kruger, dropping the first set in a tiebreaker before falling in the second. Vaughan also had a tough first-set defeat.

Aidan Porter, playing the No. 6 singles spot, nearly pulled out the second set of his match with Odnel Daugherty before coming up short, 6-2, 7-5.

In doubles, Nathan Beekman and Peyton Hays won eight games in their two sets versus Justin Yarahmadi and Rylan Kuhn.

Beekman and Hays also suffered losses in singles, with Kord Utley and Porter, Dennis Morgan and Tate Balkenende, and Michael Miller and Alexander Hansen dropping doubles matches.

Fort Dodge heads to Marshalltown on Tuesday.
