Warriors win scorefest in 2A

Wapsie Valley and Ridge View went hit-for-hit here Tuesday night at Rogers Park, with the Warriors coming out in the end in Class 2A state softball action, 11-9.

Taylor Buhr and Layla Armstrong each had three hits and two RBI for Wapsie Valley, with Maya Barnes connecting on a home run. Barnes finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Nine different Warrior players scored a run, eight had at least one hit and five drove in a run or more.

Wapsie Valley raced out to a 5-0 lead in first before the Raptors rallied with three in the second and three in the third. The Warriors responded, scoring twice in the third and twice more in the fourth, with Ridge View plating three in the fifth to tie it at 9-all.

Sawyer Buhr recorded the final seven outs, striking out three and not allowing a hit or run for Wapsie Valley inside the circle.

Nora Todd hit a home run for Ridge View, as Cora Tesch and Harper Cress each had four hits. Todd, Tesch and Cress each drove in two.

The Raptors will now play Logan-Magnolia on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in an elimination game on Hy-Vee Field, with the winner advancing to play Wapsie Valley at 2:30 p.m.
