Adel-ADM fought its way back from the depths of defeat on the winner's side of the bracket at the state softball tournament on Tuesday.

Trailing 5-3 with only three outs left to give, the top-seeded Tigers (35-4 overall) dug deep and plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh to score a 6-5 victory over Western Dubuque at Rogers Park.

No. 9 hitter Ellis Smith delivered the game-winning RBI single with two outs to cap the rally and keep ADM alive without a loss in the 4A field. Kinzee Maxwell also had a run-scoring hit to start the comeback, and a bunt by Addison Siedelmann evened the score for the Tigers.

Elliotte Von Roden was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the victory. Maxwell and Aubrey Noring both contributed two hits.

Iowa State University recruit Lauren Hagedorn worked 2.2 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts to earn the victory and improve to 18-4 on the year.

Carly Vogel and Melanie Runge both had three hits for the fourth-seeded Bobcats (33-9), who shook off a slow start to take command until the end. ADM plated a pair of runs in the opening frame, but Lauren Vaske limited the Tigers to one run in innings two through six.

Western Dubuque scored one in the first inning and twice in both the third and fifth for a 5-3 advantage that held until the late fireworks.

Kyla Ramler contributed two hits and two RBI for the Bobcats.

ADM, which is in Fort Dodge this summer for a sixth consecutive time, will next play at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Channel Seeds Field against either Western Dubuque again or Burlington.
