Dallas Center-Grimes 4, Cedar Rapids Kennedy 2
Competing in Class 5A for the first time, Dallas Center-Grimes stayed alive here Tuesday night at Rogers Park with a 4-2 victory over Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
Tessa Jones and Jennah Gray each went deep for the Mustangs, who must now defeat defending state champion Waukee Northwest twice to make the finals.
Kale Montag had three hits and Jones recorded 13 strikeouts inside the circle.
For Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Lily Knutson struck out seven batters and Quinn Wagner homered, driving in two.
Class 4A
Western Dubuque 5,
Burlington 2
Carly Vogel had four hits, scored two run and stole two bases to lead Western Dubuque to a 5-2 victory over Burlington in a Class 4A elimination game.
Vogel also had an RBI, as did Melanie Runde, Evelyn White, Taylor Witzel and Evelynn Koopmann. Claire Vaske struck out five and Lauren Vaske three inside the circle for the Bobcats.
Burlington had just one hit against the two pitchers from Ava Fawcett.
Class 3A
Williamsburg 4,
PCM 2 (8 inn.)
Senior Taylor Sanchez made sure three-time defending Class 3A state champion Williamsburg would live to play another day.
Sanchez hit a walk-off two-run homer in the eighth, as the Raiders topped PCM, 4-2, Tuesday night at Rogers Park.
Williamsburg will play Mount Vernon on Wednesday at 1 p.m. on Iowa Central Field, needing to defeat them twice to reach the finals.
Sanchez finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, as Makenna Capper drove in a run.
Libby Winters recorded two hits for PCM, as Lillian Humpal had a double.
Class 1A
Exira-EHK/Audubon 5, Southeast Warren 4
Taryn Petersen came all the way around from second to score the winning run and keep top seed Exira-EHK/Audubon alive in Class 1A with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Southeast Warren.
Petersen reached when she was hit by a pitch and stole second before Anna Larsen laid down a bunt. Southeast Warren attempted to get the out, but the ball got away from them.
Petersen finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, as Lucy Stanerson had two hits and an RBI. Zoey Rasmussen hit a homer and Riley Miller struck out five.
For Southeast Warren, Lexi Clendenen had two hits and Allie Giesler struck out five.
Exira-EHK/Audubon will play Edgewood-Colesburg at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday on Farm Bureau Field. They will need to earn two vs. the Vikings.
Class 2A
Grand View Christian 11, Cardinal 3
Grand View Christian avenged a loss to Cardinal earlier in the Class 1A tournament, eliminating them here Tuesday with an 11-3 win in six innings.
Chloe Cox and Grace Kruse each hit a home run, as Cox finished 4-for-4 with four RBI and four runs scored. Kruse and Harper Rosado each drove in two, as Eperlie Weitzel struck out eight for the Thunder, who will play Iowa City Regina at 12:15 p.m. on Hy-Vee Field.
Grand View Christian must defeat the Regals twice to advance to the finals.
Autumn Sertterh and Maelin Hickenbottom both drove in runs for Cardinal.
