Burlington 1, Winterset 0
Eighth-seeded Burlington stayed alive at the state softball tournament with a 1-0 victory over Winterset on Tuesday afternoon at Rogers Sports Complex.
The Grayhounds fought off elimination behind Kylee Hill's five-hit shutout. Hill (15-4) didn't walk a batter and struck out three.
Kylee Hill's RBI single broke a scoreless tie in the seventh against tough-luck loser Danica Ferber, who fired a complete-game two-hitter with nine strikeouts.
Winterset bows out with a record of 24-15.
North Polk 7,
Clear Creek-Amana 4
No. 7 seed North Polk staved off elimination with a 7-4 win over Clear Creek-Amana on Tuesday on Channel Seeds Field.
Leah Muth hit a two-run home run for the Comets (21-17), who will now face third-seeded Fort Dodge at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday. The winner advances to square off with Carlisle.
Harper Lincoln had two hits and drove in a pair, and Alexandra Mohlke tallied a pair of hits as well.
Kyla Schulte slugged her 24th home run for the Clippers, who head home with an overall mark of 31-13. Elizabeth Timmerman and Caroline Klapperich both finished with two hits for CC-A, who took an early 1-0 lead before North Polk plated six straight runs.
CLASS 3A
Albia 8, West Delaware 3
No. 3 seed Albia bounced back on Tuesday and stayed alive with an 8-3 win over West Delaware.
The Lady Dees (33-2) rebounded from just their second loss of the season in the opener against Van Meter and gave a complete performance to advance. Albia is now slated for a rematch with the Bulldogs at 10:45 a.m. on Iowa Central Field Wednesday morning.
Zoey Zanoni knocked in a pair of runs with a double in the victory. Aliyah Hood, Brooke Rubel and Lillian DeMoss all recorded a pair of hits.
Hood and Addie Hill scored twice for the Lady Dees. Addie Pearson worked 3.2 scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts.
The Hawks finish at 25-13.
Monroe-PCM 7,
West Liberty 0
Camden Webb tossed a four-hit shutout as PCM moved on early Tuesday with a 7-0 shutout of West Liberty.
Webb struck out nine to lead the fifth-seeded Mustangs. The sophomore improved to 19-5 on the year.
Lillian Knapp had two hits and drove in three to power the offense. Kyra Naeve, Libby Winters and Webb added two hits each.
PCM scored in each of the first five innings, including three in the fourth.
The No. 8 seed Comets bow out with a record of 20-15.
CLASS 2A
Grand View Christian 7,
Hinton 4
Facing elimination, top-seed and No. 2 Grand View Christian jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, besting Hinton in Class 2A action Tuesday, 7-4.
The Thunder plated three runs in the second and added one more in the third before finishing Hinton off with one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Sophie Bird and Grace Kruse each went deep for Grand View Christian, as Livy VanDerSluis was 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Bird and Kruse each stole two bases, with Chloe Fox and Eperlie Weitzel each striking out three inside the circle.
For Hinton, Addison Dunkel, Sydney Doeschot and Karlyn Kovarna all had two hits, with Kovarna driving in a pair.
Logan-Magnolia 6, Durant 4
Nine runs were scored in the first inning between Logan-Magnolia and Durant in a Class 2A elimination game here Tuesday.
Just one more would come across the plate over the next six innings, but it was a key one, as Logan-Magnolia stayed alive with a 6-4 decision.
Ella Hack had a home run, driving in four runs, as Gracyn Stone and Maci Bertelsen each had two hits for Logan-Magnolia. Campbell Chase struck out six, with all four runs being unearned against her.
Mara Diercikx and Jordan Enfield each had two hits for Durant, with Lily Olderog striking out seven.
