Area players reign on all-TLC girls squads

Reigning Class 1A state champion Newell-Fonda placed two on the all-Twin Lakes Conference first team, the league announced. Sophomore Ellie Sievers and freshman Quinn Sievers were on the top squad, along with Emmetsburg’s Dylan Fiene and Rachel Schany. Khloe Mefferd of Pocahontas Area, Avery Wilson from Sioux Central and GTRA teammates Caitlyn Hough and Kamryn Hough rduonded out the honor squad. Iowa Central competes at nationals

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — The Iowa Central swim team concluded the season here this past weekend at the NJCAA Championships, as the men placed fourth overall and the women were eighth. Indian River State, the host school, swept both team titles once again. Rasmus Skyving had the top individual finish for the men, placing fourth in the 1,650 free. Daniel Gonazles Jimenez was fifth in the same event. Iowa Central’s 200 medley relay finished fourth while the men’s 400 free, 200 free, 400 medley and 800 free all were fifth. Tritons continue their winning ways

The No. 16 Iowa Central baseball team picked up four wins over two days of action on the road, sweeping Redlands and North Central Missouri. The Tritons downed Redlands this past Sunday by scores of 12-2 and 15-0, with both games ending in five innings. On Monday, Iowa Central (15-1 overall) stretched its current win streak to 11 by besting North Central Missouri, 18-0 in five innings and 7-4. The Tritons return home to host Southwestern on Tuesday for the start of a 13-game run of home dates to close out the month.

Iowa Central softball pushes streak to six

MELBOUNE, Fla. — The Iowa Central softball team has now won six games in a row following a Monday sweep of Miles and Williston State. The Tritons opened the day with a 14-4 victory in five innings over Miles, following that up by downing Williston State in five, 10-1. Natalie Rasmussen had two home runs vs. Miles, including a leadoff shot to start the scoring. Iowa Central (9-3 overall) has a day off before returning to action on Wednesday vs. St. Cloud Tech and Macomb from USSSA Space Coast Stadium.

Area athletes compete at Dickinson Relays

CEDAR FALLS — Several teams hit the indoor track and field scene here Monday night for the boys portion of the Dickinson Relays, including Southeast Valley and South Central Calhoun. Alex Burger recorded the top finish for the Jaguars, as the junior was 17th overall in the 200 with a time of 23.81. He was also 31st in the 60 hurdles prelims. Colin Johnson was 28th in the prelims of the 60 hurdles and 33rd in the 200, as Kolton Ollinger was 38th in the 60 hurdles prelims.
