Manske leads Algona past Carroll

2 min read

CARROLL – A healthy Nathan Manske definitely makes Algona a different team.

Manske had two rushing touchdowns and returned an interception for a third score, leading the Bulldogs to a 35-21 victory over third-ranked Carroll here Friday night in the Class 3A playoffs.

With the win, No. 15 Algona (6-4 overall) advances to face district rival Bishop Heelan in Sioux City next week. The 11th-ranked Crusaders knocked off No. 6 Sioux Center, 28-21.

Along with the three Manske scores, Owen Moe answered a touchdown by the Tigers, returning the ensuing kickoff back 90 yards for a score. That made it a 27-21 lead for the Bulldogs after Carroll had tied things with a fourth-down touchdown and a successful two-point conversion.

Manske got the Bulldogs on the board with a TD run in the first, with Cael Rotert scoring on a 41-yard run to make it 14-0.

Carroll (8-2) responded with two passing touchdowns from Camden King, with the second coming as time expired in the first half.

Manske picked off King in the third and darted to the end zone, sneaking in for six. Moe ended any thoughts of a rally by the Tigers with an interception.

In the regular season finale, Bishop Heelan topped Algona, 24-14, to clinch the district title.

Starting at /week.
