GOWRIE -- The Southeast Valley football team nearly pulled off their second straight upset.
The Jaguars (5-2 overall, 2-2 in district) took fourth-ranked Spirit Lake (5-2, 3-1) into deep waters before falling, 21-16.
It was 10-10 heading into the fourth quarter before Spirit Lake faked an extra point to go up 18-10. The Jaguars scored again to make it 18-16 before failing on a two-point conversion.
Spirit Lake then kicked a field goal for the 21-16 eventual winning score.
The Jaguars received the ball with 56 seconds remaining and drove to the 38 of the Indians. They threw the ball to the six yard line, which was intercepted.
Casey Hansen had an 11-yard touchdown pass to Bryce Harrison, who made a remarkable one handed, one foot in bounds catch in the end zone.
Hansen also had a two-yard touchdown run.
Spencer Peterson kicked a school record 47-yard field goal earlier in the contest.
Hansen ran the ball 22 times for 84 yards. He was 8-for-13 passing for 66 yards and Mason Bahr was 3 of 7 for 85.
Harrison had six catches for 78 yards.
During halftime Southeast Valley honored Brad Lane for 30 years of volunteering as the team's state man. Lane has never missed a game in 30 years of service.
