Iowa Central women advance

By Dana Becker 2 min read

The Iowa Central women's soccer team made quick work of Iowa Lakes here Thursday, prevailing by a final of 3-1.

With the win, the Tritons advance to the semifinals of the Region 11 Tournament. They will head to Waterloo on Sunday to face top-seeded and No. 8 Hawkeye at 3 p.m.

On the bottom half of the bracket, Northeast hosts Central. No. 13 Northeast advanced with 4-0 victory over Dakota County, while Central knocked off Western Iowa Tech by a final of 3-0.

"Bekah Gramer (two goals) and Karma McMorris (one goal) helped create a lot of chances for us," ICCC head coach Jordan Sibenaller said. "We are playing our best soccer of the year right now.

"I'm happy for our sophomores and hope to win the conference tournament to keep the season going."

Iowa Central (9-5-2 overall) scored twice in the first half, adding a third goal late in the second before the Lakers got on the board. The two teams tied, 1-1, earlier this month in Spencer.

The championship match takes place on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The highest-remaining seed will host that match. The regional winner takes on the winner of Region 6/9 on Saturday, Nov. 7, for the North Plains District championship.

Hawkeye (13-0) claimed a 3-0 victory over the Tritons earlier this year.

The NJCAA Div. II National Tournament takes place Nov. 15-21 in Huntsville, Ala. The district champion automatically qualifies.
