GARDEN CITY, Kan. -- The Iowa Central football team finished off a lengthy run of games in Kansas with another win, besting Garden City here Saturday, 17-12.
The Tritons (4-2 overall) played their last four games away from home, going 3-1 during that span.
"It always feels great to go on the road and get a good team win," ICCC head coach Colby Kratch said. "Wasn't always perfect, but when our team needed plays, we came up with them."
A 17-point first quarter gave Iowa Central all the momentum early.
TyJohn Brooks had two touchdowns. Brooks caught a 23-yard pass from Gabe McWilliams early in the quarter, adding a 26-yard rushing score.
Anderson Trejo successfully made a 44-yard field goal between the touchdowns.
Ethan Johnson ran for 79 yards. Brooks finished with 62 yards of total offense and the two scores.
Myles Taylor had an interception on defense, as Batpiny Riak recorded two sacks.
Jaiden Moore, Marcellus Chandler and Karsten Bernholtz each had one sack.
"On offense, we need to continue to take care of the football and find consistency," Kratch said. "On defense, we still left some plays out there, but the kids kept playing and didn't allow a touchdown.
"Then, to go out up by five with under two minutes left in the game and come up with the stop was critical."
Garden City's points came on four field goals by Tucker Rinker.
Up next for Iowa Central will be third-ranked and defending NJCC national champion Iowa Western inside Dodger Stadium on Saturday.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. for the ICCAC regular season title.
