Iowa Central back in action

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – Following a week off, the Iowa Central football team returns to action, taking on Garden City here Saturday.

Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. from Broncbuster Stadium.

The Tritons (3-2 overall) were unable to secure a third consecutive win in Kansas back on Sept. 26, falling to 11th-ranked Dodge City, 38-24. They had picked up victories over both Highland and Coffeyville before that.

"The bye really came at a good time in the season," ICCC head coach Colby Kratch said. "Making no excuses, but back-to-back-to-back road games in Kansas really wore on the kids. It was good to give them some extra rest, extra reps and provide others with quality work on the field, as well."

Gabe McWilliams continues to lead the offense, as the sophomore has over 800 yards passing on the season. McWilliams has several targets to work with in Kamare Williams and TyJohn Brooks, along with top running back Ethan Johnson.

Karsten Bernholtz, Chase Pearsall, Myles Taylor and Malachi Brown are among the leading tacklers for the Iowa Central defense.

After playing four straight games in Kansas, the Tritons finally return home next Saturday, hosting No. 3 and defending national champion Iowa Western for the ICCAC regular season title.

The Broncbusters (3-4) fell to the Reivers last week, 37-10. They hold wins over Independence, Ellsworth and Coffeyville to the resume around losses to Snow, Dodge City and top-ranked Hutchinson.

Travis Delaney has thrown for over 500 yards with five touchdowns, as Gauge Miesse and Rah' Khem El each have over 200 yards receiving.

"Garden City is a talented team that will use multiple quarterbacks that can both hurt you," Kratch said. "It's not an easy challenge, but I feel like the kids are up to it.

"We'll have to execute at a high rate and win the game the Iowa Central way by having a strong attention to detail."

Both Iowa Central and Garden City are receiving votes for the NJCAA Div. I Top-15 this week.
