Gaels split on road in volleyball

HAMPTON – The St. Edmond volleyball team picked up a split in North Central Conference play here Tuesday night.

After besting Hampton-Dumont/CAL in three (25-12, 21-25, 15-9), the Gaels came up short vs. Webster City (25-23, 25-20).

Eden Horn led the way with seven kills. Olivia Andrew and Emerie Horn each tallied three in the victory over the Bulldogs for St. Edmond (8-13 overall, 3-7 in the NCC Pride Division).

Rihanna Myers had six assists and eight digs, Abby Huss was 9-for-9 serving with four aces and five assists, and Ella Vandi contributed eight digs. Chloe Palmer, who competed at the state tennis meet on Wednesday, led the team with nine digs, adding a kill and a block. Emerie Horn also had two blocks.

Eden Horn led the Gaels with seven aces, serving 16-for-18 in the match.

"We played really, really well against Hampton-Dumont/CAL," SEHS head coach Lindsay Heffernan said. "We did a great job with our service game, had a strong presence at the net with our block and put balls away when we had the chance."

H-D/C is now 11-13 on the season.

In the match vs. Webster City (18-9), Eden Horn tallied 11 kills, Emerie Horn and Ellasyn Whitmore each ahd three, and Palmer two. Huss led with nine assists, as Myers added six.

Eden Horn had four blocks, with Emerie Horn adding two with eight digs. Huss and Myers each had five digs.

Myers was 12-for-12 serving.

"We had a chance against Webster City," Heffernan said. "A couple of points just didn't go our way, but I thought we competed very well."

Next up for the Gaels will be the BCLUW Tournament on Saturday where they will square off against East Marshall, seventh-ranked (Class 1A) Dunkerton and North Mahaska.
