Gaels earn two victories at BCLUW

By Dana Becker 2 min read

CONRAD – The St. Edmond volleyball team reached the double-digit win mark for a third consecutive season with two victories here Saturday at the BCLUW Tournament.

The Gaels (10-15 overall) earned wins over East Marshall and North Mahaska to finish second in pool play, falling to host and BCLUW in the championship round. They also fell to seventh-ranked (Class 1A) Dunkerton in pool play.

"We saw some great things," SEHS head coach Lindsay Heffernan said. "Eden Horn looked great swinging on the outside. She was able to really see the court, making some great plays and keeping us ahead in most games.

"Her sister, Emmy Horn, is really earning her spot on the court. She is showing the competitive edge of a seasoned player for only being an eighth-grader. She works so hard out there for us, and is really challenging our team to continue to improve."

St. Edmond rallied to defeat East Marshall, dropping the first set, 21-10, and winning the next two, 21-18 and 15-6. They scored a three-set win over North Mahaska, posting a 15-6 victory in the third.

"I do have to give credit to our senior group of Morgan Lewis, Chloe Palmer and Abby Huss," Heffernan said. "They keep our team connected and are always wanting more.

"Overall, it was a great day to end the week and boost us into the next week."

The Gaels are at Manson Northwest Webster on Tuesday and Iowa Falls-Alden on Thursday. They close out the regular season Saturday at the Algona October Invitational.

Regional pairings were released last week, with St. Edmond set to host North Iowa on Monday, Oct. 19.
