RUTHVEN – In a flash, GTRA put a major hurt on St. Edmond's hopes for a return to the playoffs this fall.
The Titans dominated the first half, picking up a 66-12 victory over the Gaels here Thursday night.
After being forced to punt on its first possession, GTRA (3-3 overall, 3-1 in district) got things going. The Titans put together six straight scoring drives on offense before the half ended, adding a defensive score.
Brooks Hanson hit Brady Harris and Cayden Wilson on scoring strikes after a short TD run by Landen Dietrich. In the opening 12 minutes, GTRA outgained St. Edmond (2-4, 2-2), 121-19, holding the Gaels without a first down.
“We are banged up and that is the most frustrating part of this,” SEHS head coach Matt Dillon said. “We are playing kids not ready for this level, but we have to.
“We’ll come back next week and get back after it.”
The Titans continued rolling in the second, as Dietrich had another touchdown run and Hanson scooped up a fumble and found his way to the end zone for a score. Jaxson Nock got in on the scoring with a 41-yard TD run after an interception by Jace Hough.
In between, St. Edmond did have two big plays. Thomas Ehn hit Griffin Laufersweiler for 65 yards and Gavin McClain for another 65-yard strike. The touchdown was the first of McClain's Gael career.
Hanson finished 13 of 20 for 188 yards and three TDs in a half, as Nock rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Dietrich had 50 and two scores as well. Wilson tallied eight receptions for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Ehn threw for 197 yards while Laufersweiler had four catches for 111 yards.
“Thomas showed a lot of heart sticking in there, ” Dillon said. “Griffin also had a nice game.”
St. Edmond remains on the road, heading to Harris-Lake Park next Friday night. GTRA heads to ninth-ranked Kingsley-Pierson.
