Dodgers ranked 14th in RPI poll

The Fort Dodge football team is ranked 14th in the first official Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) released by Iowa High School Athletic Association.

The RPI is one of the determining factors for playoff qualifiers in Class 5A, 4A and 3A. District champions and runners-up automatically qualify for the postseason, in addition to four at-large qualifiers from the standings.

The Dodgers (4-2 overall) are coming off a pair of losses to second-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton and No. 5 Spencer in district play. Fort Dodge hosts No. 29 Storm Lake this Friday night for Homecoming.

Defending state champion Cedar Rapids Xavier is first in the 4A standings.

Southeast Polk holds the No. 1 position in 5A while Solon is at the top in 3A.

For 2A, 1A, A and eight-player, a committee forms a Top-10 each week. Clarion-Goldfield/Dows is ranked eighth in 1A, defending champion Bishop Garrigan is fifth in eight-player and North Union is ranked eighth in eight-player.

The Cowboys host No. 9 South Hardin this Friday night while the Golden Bears welcome in Northwood-Kensett. The Warriors host West Bend-Mallard.

Central Lyon/George-Little Rock (2A), Iowa City Regina (1A), Woodbury Central (A) and Audubon (eight-player) are all ranked No. 1 in their respective classes.
