The Fort Dodge girls swim team is gearing up for the postseason, and they took some positive steps toward it on Thursday night when they hosted the Iowa Alliance Conference Meet.
Marshalltown (305) was the team champion, followed by Des Moines Lincoln (202) and Des Moines North (211). The Dodgers (110) placed sixth.
"It was a great opportunity for our varsity to start thinking about the postseason and what we want to get ready to try and qualify (for state)," said FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont. "We aren't tapering yet and haven’t rested, so it was good to see us push as we get ready (for the stretch run)."
Senior Karlee Pearson turned in the top performance for the Dodgers, finishing as the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.98.2).
"Karlee swam well, especially for not being rested as much and going up against strong competition," Beaumont said. "It gives her a little excitement to be ready for the home stretch."
Kylen Lubensky, like Pearson a Manson Northwest Webster senior, had two Top-5 showing. Lubensky was third in the 50 freestyle (26.65) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:55.68).
"Kylen had a great night going third in the 50 and fourth in the 500," Beaumont said. "It just shows how versatile she is to swim a short and long event.
"She was close to her best time in the 500 and she held her own in the 50."
The 200 freestyle relay team of Lubensky, Pearson, Makayla Knox and Clara Brown were fourth in 1:54.45.
The same quartet was fifth in the 200 medley, touching the wall in 2:06.39.
Pearson grabbed a sixth place showing in the 100 butterfly (1:09.77) and Brown was eighth in the 200 IM (2:43.33).
Knox was 10th in the 200 freestyle (2:25.25) and Teagan Loots was 11th in the 100 freestyle (1:07.01).
"I thought our JV swimmer Addie Meyer from Humboldt had a great night," Beaumont said. "She has been on varsity in the past, so to see her go so well was amazing."
The Dodgers are back in action on Nov. 7 when they swim at Ankeny for a state qualifying meet.
