Bears win ranked tilt with North Union

ALGONA -- For the second straight week, defending eight-man champion Bishop Garrigan faced a ranked foe.

This time, the fifth-ranked Golden Bears (5-1 overall, 2-0 in district) came out on top, beating No. 7 North Union (5-1, 1-1), 34-28.

The Golden Bears turned the Warriors away late in the fourth quarter inside the five year line.

"Our kids did a very good job on the last drive," said Bishop Garrigan head coach Marty Wadle. "We got them to third down then to fourth down.

"We were very good on the defensive side of the ball."

Michael Joyce had a strong night through the air, going 9-for-11 for 329 yards and three touchdowns.

He connected with Weston Rosenmeyer (40 yards), Madden Miller (46) and Brad Meister (17) for scores.

CJ McGregor had a six-yard jaunt and Joyce scored on a two-yard plunge.

McGregor finished with 69 yards on 17 carries and Joyce had 46.

Rosemeyer had three catches for 85, Miller two for 82 and Meister two for 58.

Dalton Klenz had an interception. Karson Kramer and McGregor had eight tackles and Joyce had seven.

Greyson Colegrove ran the ball 18 times for 136 yards and three touchdowns and he threw a touchdown pass.
