Action heats up around the area

Marty Wadle will find something out about his football team that he hasn't had to for a while.

The legendary coach will see how his team responds to a regular season loss.

Last week the fifth-ranked Golden Bears (4-1 overall, 1-1 in district) lost to Bedford (16-8), their first regular season loss in 28 games. Michael Joyce had the lone touchdown.

The slate doesn't get easier as Bishop Garrigan faces another ranked foe, in No. 7 North Union (5-0, 2-0).

Heading into tonight's contest the Golden Bears have run for 1,463 years. CJ McGregor is the groundhog, carrying the ball 61 times for 689 yards and 11 touchdowns. Carter Cirk has seven touchdowns, while Michael Joyce has four, Wyatt Schaffer has three and Titan Troyer has two.

Joyce has thrown five touchdowns.

North Union has been dominant on the ground as well, rushing for 1,585 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Greyson Colegrove and Carson Crouch have been dual threats for the Warriors. Crouch has ran for 785 yards and Colegrove has 514. They have 11 and 10 touchdowns respectively.

Max Heinen and Drake Nelsen have three each.

Southeast Valley (4-1, 1-1) at Okoboji (4-1, 1-1)

After suffering their first district loss last week to top-ranked Carroll Kuemper, the Jaguars look to get back on the board against Okoboji.

The Jaguars fell to the Knights 46-14. Dual threat quarterbacks Mason Bahr and Casey Hanson both threw touchdown passes. Alex Burger and Logan Jaeschke had touchdown catches.

This season Hanson has thrown for 581 yards and 12 touchdown passes, while Bahr has three scores.

Hanson has run for 452 yards and three scores. Bahr, Wyatt Muench and Tristan Hanson have rushing scores.

For the Pioneers, Trey Vander Pol has thrown for 913 yards and nine scores. Camden Vonk has run for 619 yards and seven scores, while Vander Pol has five scores on the ground.

South Central Calhoun (4-1, 1-1) at East Sac County (5-0, 2-0)

The Titans suffered their first loss of the season last week, Garrett Krause had the lone score on a 58-yard scamper. Krause ran for 123 yards.

South Central Calhoun has made a living running the ball, going for 1,398 yards. Sixteen different backs have toted the ball. Cooper Nattress (373 yards) is the leading rusher, followed by Krause (249), and Hayden Stickrod (234).

Brayden Werneburg has four scores while Krause has three.

East Sac County is led on the ground by Carson Schmitt with 609 yards and eight touchdowns. Weston Julin has 373 yards and four scores. Julin has also thrown for 432 and six scores.

Zach Jacobsen has two touchdown catches, while Beckman Kluver, Carter Popp, Schmitt and Dawson Allen have one each.

No. 9 Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (4-1, 2-0) at Eagle Grove (3-2, 1-1)

The Cowboys picked up a 41-21 victory over Grundy Center.

C-G-D ran for 318 yards. Colin Sesker had 105 yards and two scores. J.D. Morrical, Maxton Downing, and Reed Campbell had one touchdown each.

The Cowboys have run for 1,556 yards. Leading the way is Sesker (352), Morrical (321), Reed Campbell (318), Charlie Campbell (297), and Downing (214).

Sesker has six scores, while Charlie Campbell (five), Reed Campbell (four), Morrical and Dowling have three each. Morrical has five touchdown passes.

Leading the way for the Eagles are Adrian Whipple (339), Trenton Robinson (292) and Kyler Sisson (241).

Robinson has seven touchdowns, while Whipple has five and Kyler Sisson has three each.

Emmetsburg (3-2, 2-0) at Manson Northwest Webster (2-3, 1-1)

The Cougars are coming off a 28-0 win over Pocahontas Area and the E-Hawks squeaked out a 7-6 win over South Central Calhoun.

In Manson Northwest Webster's win Coy MOline had 172 yards and four touchdowns to lead the way.

This season Moline has 714 yards and 13 scores on the ground.

For Emmetsburg, leading the ground attack are Joe Fischer (429), Beckam Shirk (235), and Brennan Hasbrouck (225). Fischer and MJ Bay have three touchdowns each.

Other area games: Algona (2-3, 1-0) at Humboldt (0-5, 0-1); Webster City (1-4, 1-0) at Sioux Center (5-0, 1-0); Pocahontas Area (2-3, 0-2) at South Hamilton (1-4, 0-2); Remsen St. Mary's (4-2, 2-1) at Newell-Fonda (1-4, 1-3).
