HIGHLAND, Kan. – The No. 14 Iowa Central football team will become road warriors over the next several weeks starting here on Saturday.
The Tritons (1-1 overall) take on Highland at Porter Family Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
After opening the season with back-to-back home games inside Dodger Stadium, ICCC head coach Colby Kratch will bring his players to Kansas for four consecutive games over five weeks.
Following the matchup with the Scotties (1-2), the Tritons will play 15th-ranked Coffeyville next week, Dodge City on Sept. 26 and Garden City on Oct. 10.
"We are embracing this stretch," ICCC head coach Colby Kratch said. "Honestly, we are kind of excited about it because we can just focus on football.
"These guys prepared the same this week after a win as they did after a loss. They know they didn't play their best (vs. Ellsworth), but they still got the result they wanted."
Gabe McWilliams followed up his strong performance in the opener by throwing for 278 yards and three touchdowns, as Ethan Johnson added a pair of rushing scores.
Highland is coming off a 56-53 victory over Independence after falling to reigning national champions College of DuPage (Div. III) and Iowa Western (Div. I). The Scotties fell to the Chapparals, 34-32, and were dominated by the top-ranked Reivers, 71-0.
Jahmez Ross is the leading rusher for Highland, as Brycen Levidiotis had 245 yards passing in the season opener.
"Highland has two excellent receivers and a strong, big running back," Kratch said. "We have to be on our Ps and Qs on defense."
Last year, the Tritons earned a 63-27 decision over Highland, scoring 21 points in the first quarter and 28 in the second. Overall, the Scotties lead the all-time series, 5-4, with Iowa Central winning four of the last five by an average of almost 34 points.
