The Iowa Central rugby team hosted Southern Nazarine University on Saturday at Crimmins Field.
The Tritons fell short on the A side by a final of 54-7.
"I thought our men came out and played hard," said Iowa Central athletic director Guy Horn, who served as a spokesman for the program while head coach Brent Nelson tends to a personal family matter. "We've had quite a few injuries hit the squad, and with the grind of the season, we are trying to balance staying healthy and maintaining a competitive edge.
"I am proud of of how the men have responded to some of the adversity. Our coaching staff has given them the tools to help grow and develop in spots that they may not be comfortable in."
The Tritons return to action on Saturday at home again versus Drury University. Match time is 11 a.m. Wisconsin then visits Fort Dodge on Oct. 10, before back-to-back road trips at Aquinas College of Michigan and in a rematch with Southern Nazarine in Oklahoma.
"We will continue to get better every week at practice and get ready for our first conference matchup (this week) versus Drury," Horn said.
