Gaels inch closer

The St. Edmond girls tennis team moved one step closer to another North Central Conference regular-season dual title with a 6-3 victory over Webster City here Tuesday.
Due to heavy rain, the meet was moved inside. Abby Huss, Sophia Schlienz, Olivia Andrew and Jade Rock all scored wins in singles for the Gaels. In doubles, Schlienz and Andrew – along with Huss and Emmersyn Peters – secured the victory.
"It was a little different having to go inside to play, but the girls handled it well," SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. "They have been focused on the task at hand all season long, as one of our goals is to go unbeaten in the NCC again.
"We've had closer duals this year than in the past, but we keep finding ways to pull them out. All the credit goes to the girls, as they have been working extremely hard."
The Gaels are still playing without regular No. 1 Chloe Palmer. The senior suffered an injury on the volleyball court.
St. Edmond can finish undefeated in the NCC for the fifth straight season with a win on Monday at Hampton-Dumont/CAL. They will host the conference tournament two days later.
The Gaels have earned dual wins over Iowa Falls-Alden, Charles City, Clear Lake and Nevada already this season. They have won 25 straight NCC matches dating back to a 2022 loss to Iowa Falls-Alden.
